A Tour of Octagon House: Back by Popular Demand
Wednesday, April 29, 2026, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Encore Learning’s recent tour of the Octagon House quickly filled up, with many registrants left on the waiting list. A reprise tour is now offered on April 29.
In 1814, when the British briefly occupied Washington and burned the White House, the Octagon House was the stateliest private residence in the U.S. capital. It was here that President James & Dolley Madison took up residence, and here that Madison signed the Treaty of Ghent, ending the war and restoring pre-war borders. Over the next 200 years, its colorful history led, among many other things, to its reputation as the most haunted building in Washington.
