America, on the Bright Side: Tour the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream

Has our national malaise continued long enough? The Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream, which opened in 2025, presents a competing narrative about the USA. It occupies two magnificently repurposed bank buildings directly across Pennsylvania Ave from the US Treasury and the White House. Five levels of interactive displays, immigrants’ stories, and colorful visual arts explore four pillars of the American Dream:  education, health, finance and entrepreneurship.

The Washington Post quotes the CEO of the Milken Institute: “What we wanted to do is put something here that people could come in and feel optimistic about their future.”  The Center presents compelling visions of opportunity, advancement, and success. It is a welcome tribute to American initiative and a refreshing reminder that we get a lot right.  In cynical times, it doesn’t hurt to take a visit to the bright side.
