Is America Headed for Civil War? How Deep-Rooted Social Conflicts Can Be Resolved

With political polarization intensifying in the second administration of President Trump, many experts are concerned about the possible eruption of large-scale political violence in the U.S. This tragic result can be avoided, but only if we take significant steps toward peace on the basis of an accurate analysis of the conflict and a realistic assessment of the options for resolving it nonviolently.
The discussion will be led by Richard E. Rubenstein, University Professor Emeritus of Conflict Resolution and Public Affairs at George Mason University. Prof. Rubenstein is the author of ten books on resolving violent social conflicts. He is a graduate of Harvard College, Oxford University which he attended as a Rhodes Scholar, and Harvard Law School, and is a former Director of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution at George Mason. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife, Susan Ryerson, writes regularly for online journals such as CounterPunch, and is active in movements for peace and social justice.
