Guided Tour of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Alexandria
Monday, June 23, 2025, 12:00 PM – 1:15 PM
The Torpedo Factory Art Center (https://torpedofactory.org/) occupies the site of a munitions plant built in 1918 on the Potomac that assembled many of the U.S. torpedoes used during WWII. Over the last 50 years, it has been transformed into the nation’s largest number of publicly accessible artists’ studios under one roof. Its three floors house 72 studios, ten galleries, and 150 juried artists working in a diversity of media, from painting to ceramics and from fiber to printmaking. Our accomplished guide, artist and curator Alison Sigethy will introduce us to a selection of studios and galleries with artworks available for sale at a broad range of prices. She herself creates one-of-a-kind kinetic glass sculptures called Sea Cores as well as a variety of smaller glass sculptures and lenticular paintings at her Fantastical Glass gallery on the third floor. We will allow time to visit the on-site Archaeological Museum, covering the rich history of the Alexandria waterfront.
