David Briggs

After 41 years of practicing real estate law, David retired in 2017 and started participating in Encore Learning’s class offerings.  David received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, undertook graduate work at the University of South Florida while serving in the United States Air Force, and received his Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University Law School.  He has been a resident of Arlington on and off since his law school days, and he and his husband, John Benton, call the Residences at Lyon Hill Condominium home.  Over the years, David has been an active advocate for and supporter of the arts in Arlington County.  He has served on the Boards of the Arlington Metropolitan Chorus (now the Arlington Chorale) and Signature Theatre.  He was appointed to the first Arlington Commission for the Arts, then to the Virginia Commission for the Arts and now serves as a board member and secretary of Embracing Arlington Arts.  His involvement in the Arlington community has not been limited to the arts.  He is a 1999 graduate of Leadership Arlington and served on the board of and as general counsel to the Arlington Free Clinic.  He was a trustee of the Arlington Community Foundation and facilitated the establishment of the Rosslyn Business Improvement District, the first BID in Arlington.  David and his husband enjoy spending much of their time at their home in Rehoboth Beach, DE.
